I can't access any of my CD drives :(

After a horrible Windows XP experience that resulted in me having to do a repair install, I am back in business except for my CD-drives -- actually an NEC 8x DVD-RW and a Plextor CD-RW.

Windows believes the drivers are corrupt, and I am unable to reinstall them. See screenshot here: pic

Any suggestions? I have tried the following:

replacing cd-rom.sys w/original from the CD
uninstalling and forcing a re-detect of the drives
removing all possibly related software (CD-burning apps, copying apps, daemontools, etc)

I'm out of ideas. This isn't like a video card where I can just go download the driver... can't find the appropriate files anywhere. I do have the WinXP CD, and all the cabs are on my HD, but it's not doing me any good so far. Help!

Thanks in advance

disconnect your cd rom drives from your mobo, and reboot your computer, delete any thing that has to do with them. Then, shutdown and install one(I would choose the plextor), and boot back into windows, and see if that works with just one at a time. then go to the next cd rom.

Tried that; no go. I'm about to rename all the signed driver files to see what that will do...

this is just weird. Anyone have a driver installation package for CD-ROMs so I can try and update the driver?

Delete the filter drivers having to do with the CDROM. To do this, first uninstall any software that has to do with CDROM burning, DVD burning, Alcohol 120%-type software, drive image software, etc. I see you've done that already, so run MPS Reports (see the URL in my .sig) and send me the resulting .cab file so I can see what filters you have installed.

Thank you for all of your help; it was indeed a filter driver issue; although I had removed all the software that installed them, the lower-limit value in the registry was still there. Once I removed that, the drivers worked perfectly.
