SOLVED - Cannot login to Xp Pro after removing from domain

I removed a laptop from a domain and after rebooting I am not able to login to a local account that has admin priviliges. When I removed the domain I also set the machine up to be part of a workgoup.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can log on to my user account? I do not remember what the administrator password is as I set it up a few years ago and have no clue.

You're either going to need to remember the username/password or use a 'password reset boot cd' to clear/change the password.
 
So other than logging into a different account, or using some third party password recovery disc at bootup, there is no way to boot into my account (Administrative) after removing from domain?
 
Being part of a domain or not has nothing to do with it. If you don't remember the password for the local account, you don't get in. Pretty simple 🙂

Not sure if you realize this, but you can log on to a local account while the machine is part of a domain.
 
You could also try CTRL ALT DEL twice in a row at the log-on screen, then use Administrator as the username and a blank password. On default WinXP Pro installations, this may work if that (normally-hidden) account was not renamed or given a password.

If that works, you can then reset the password on your usual Admin account. Doing so will prevent you from ever again accessing files which you encrypted with the Encrypting File System using the account whose password you're changing. So if you did encrypt stuff with EFS, you don't want to do this until you've exhausted other options.
 
I think you are missing the problem. I KNOW the password for my account. But after removing my computer from the domain it does not allow me to log in with it. It says "Make sure the username password and domain are typed correctly, yet there is no option for a domain.
 
Are you sure the account is a local account and not a domain account? Why was the machine removed from the domain?
 
Well I took Robor's suggestion and downloaded a password reset disk. It worked like a charm. As it turns out, my account was not a local account but in fact a domain account. I was able to log in the administrator account, create a new user and copy all of the data from the original account.

Thank you guys very much for your help. As always, someone here points me in the right direction.
