*solved*Can I get some help from people familiar with administrative programs in WinXP?

Hello all. I have this program called ScanGenius that refuses to run under a Limited User account. So I emailed the tech support and they emailed me a document that tells you how to accomplish this. Unfortunately, the instructions pertaining to the registry don't apply. I mean, how are you supposed to check something in the registry? So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what administrative program in Windows this might apply to.

Configuring Program Access/User Rights
1. If your user(s) will retain admin rights, no further configuration is necessary. If you need to now back off user rights, continue with the following steps.
2. Limited User Access Level: (Not applicable for multiple users)
a) Log In as ?Administrator?. Change the rights for the desired User Account to ?Limited?.
b) Launch Windows Explorer. Expand the ?local disk c:/Program Files? tree. View Properties for the Palm folder. On the Security tab, select ?Limited Users? and check ?Allow Full Control?. Click OK.
[Note: If you don?t see the Security tab, go to Tools/Folder Options/View/Advanced Settings and uncheck the option ?Use Simple File Sharing?.]
c) Again from the Explorer tree ?local disk c:/Program Files?, view Properties for the Scan Genius Folder. On the Security Tab, select ?Limited Users? and check ?Allow Full Control?. Click OK.
d) Click the Start button, go to ?Run?, and type ?Regedt32? and Enter.
e) Click the Hkey_Local_Machine tab. Expand the Software folder.
f) Select the Microsoft folder. View Permissions, and then select the Users group. Check to allow Full Control. Click OK to save settings.
g) Repeat step f) for the following additional folders: ODBC, Palm, and Scan Genius. Close the Registry Editor.

h) Log In as the user and Synchronize the scanner; if you can synchronize then your installation/setup is now complete.

Thanks! 🙂

check something in registry using

Start/ Run/ Regedit... what's your question?

I already have, the said items don't exist. And like I said above, you cannot "check" and "uncheck" things in the registry. This is why I asked if this might be for another administrative program that I didn't know about.

With Regedt32, you should be able to click Security at the top, like this.

On mine you have to right-click the folder and then click Permissions. 😕 Thanks for the help mechBgon. 🙂
