[SOLVED] Asus laptop hangs @ "Checking NVRAM"..

So I was using the laptop (1.5yr old) to watch some football on the internet and for some reason it just froze. I waited a bit and realized it wasn't going to come back (it's happened before) and restarted the machine, so now at bootup it hangs on "Checking NVRAM.." and makes an annoying beeping alarm sound.

I'm not sure if it's actually hanged on that or whatever it's supposed to do next. I've googled and searched here but there seems to be many different reasons people get this problem I don't know where to start.

Help 🙁

nevermind.. it's fixed itself, for now anyway.

Check the owners manual in the troubleshooting section (usually near the end) for insight. The number of beeps may be specifying the specific issue. I would pull the RAM sticks and apply a very light coat of Deoxit on the contacts and reinsert and then try a restart.

FIXED - I think..

OK, so I flipped the lappy over to see how I was going to dismantle this thing to apply some of the advice above. I took the battery out first and thought maybe try booting one more time but without the battery in it and it booted. I put the battery back in and it's booting without fail so far.

Wierd no? Oh well, at least it's working.

Thank you! 🙂

You are welcome, it may be thet the battery was just not seated properly but incase the problem occurs again I would suggest buying a new cmos (not expensive) just so you can rule out the original one being flat.
