I just added a 180gb Western Digital hard drive with a SIIG controlller card to an HP Vectra VL400 here at work. The controller card's BIOS shows that it sees the drive, the card and the hard drive are present in Device Manager with no errors, but when I look in Windows Explorer, I don't see the drive.

I followed thisMS KB Article for large hard drives in W2K. The drive came with a Promise TX2 controller card but I was going to use that in another system, so I also bought the SIIG. I don't think that should matter.

The system has a 20gig HP (looks like an IBM) drive configured as master on the mobo IDE channel and the WD is on the primary channel of the card configured for single, i.e. no jumper. My experience with WD, if it's a single drive and you put the jumper for master, it doesn't work.

Help is appreciated!! My coworker needs to capture some video!

Go to disk manager, and make sure it shows up there. If it does, then format the disk in disk manager.

Hoorah for MogulMonster!

Yep it showed there. Before I could partition it I had to create a signature for it, didn't quite understand that, but it was the only option when I right clicked on the drive. After that a right click produced, "Create Partition".

Thanks!!

One last question. Was it necessary to enable the registry key? The reason I ask, nothing changed after I enabled the key, or would I have noticed problems after I formatted if it was disabled?

OK, the HD gurus :) that helped out here, look at my other thread.
