Solution to LCd's without 1280x1024?

With regard to LCD's.... the price of 17-inch / 19inchers is very nice, BUT, as i understand it, the 1280x1024 messes things up if you're picky about graphics. And i'm going to be workng with photos and stuff. I don't want my circles to turn out ovals.

Is there any solution? Are there any 17/19 inch monitors with a correct aspect ratio?

At the moment it seems I am limited to 15-inchers (which are okay but not a very good value) and 20-inchers ($600+ being out of my price range.

most graphics people prefer crt's because of contrast and brightness of the screen and you get get alot of crt for your money. As for the aspect ratio I don't do much of anything with graphics so it looks fine.

the aspect ratio is fine as long as you don't stretch 1024 x 768 material to fit the 1280 x 1024 space. A circle will be a circle

A 19 in LCD will display 1280x1024 in the correct aspect ratio just fine. Circles will be perfectly circular because the display itself is in the same 5:4 aspect ratio as the resolution. Try to run 1280x1024 on a 4:3 aspect CRT monitor, and THEN you will have some issues with the image being distorted.

Agree with rleemhui and batmanuel. I have two 19 in LCDs and a 15.6 in laptop (my mobile darkroom.) I am heavy into graphics and digital imagery, and has been stated - have yet to see any aspect distortion. My native resolution on all three systems is 1280 x 1024. I also use a projector with XGA, and there is no problem with the projected images. For graphics work and editing I use a Wacom digitizing pad.

Maybe the problem comes from wide UXGA displays where the user has stretched the image to full screen rather than scroll vertically or use black sidebands?
