Solution needed: PoE uninterruptible power supply

We have rooftop radio units that are fed via PoE. I'm curious if anyone has come across a simple PoE UPS? I'm basically looking for something very simple. Two RJ45's, one in and one out, that takes power from the PoE feed and stores it in a battery or capacitor (ultracapacitor) for use incase the main power fails.

Since our radio units not only connect the customer to the wireless network but also repeat the signal it's important for us to have the system backed up right on the pole.

Has anyone seen anything of this nature on the market? I realize it could be built easily enough, but I was hoping for a quick turn-key solution.

Why dont you put the UPS at the Switch pushing the PoE

Or at the power injector if you are using them?

There isn't a switch pushing most of these units, but the ones that do will have UPS.

putting a UPS on the PoE is a difficult issues because the customer has direct access to it and more often than not we'll probably see the customer disconnect the UPS to hook their toaster up to it or something. So really what we need is a universal outdoor PoE UPS that can just sustain the unit up on the rooftop itself...

You might want to try in the Networking forum. Also, what the heck are your devices hooked up to if not a switch? I mean, there must be SOMETHING on the other end of the wire providing the power...

Don't you run the same risk of them unplugging the switch for a toaster as you do the UPS? If you have the switches providing the PoE, then just UPSing them would be enough. Also if you don't have these switches UPSed, what good is it to provide power to the antennas if they don't have a switch to transmit their data?
