Solution for the Gateway FPD2185W monitor USB hub problem

I have had the USB hub not working a few times.

When it stopped working, I took it to work. It worked fine at work. Then, I brought it back home and it worked fine at home too!

It worked for 4 months after that and tonight again stopped working. So, the monitor works fine except that the hub shows as an unknown USB device under the device manager in XP.

This time, I shut down the monitor and unplugged it from AC power. While unplugged, I pressed the on off switch 2 or 3 times.
Then, after about 30 seconds of having it unplugged, I plugged it back in and powered it up and it is working just fine again.

If you experience this problem with this monitor and try this approach and the problem remains, please post here.

I have the same problem. I have found that often you can go into Device Manager and right-click the top-level computer node and select Scan For Hardware changes. This will detect devices on the Gateway USB hub.
There have been a couple of times that this didn't work and I had to disconnect the power. :-(
From time to time my monitor will also lock up when the system boots; if I wait until the POST beep to turn the monitor on it usually doesn't lock up the DVI.

Do I understand correctly that you are confirming that disconnecting the monitor power always fixes your USB hub, when the hub stops working?
