Apparently, Asus really botched the rollout of its September bios updates for many of its p55 boards, including mine (the P7PP5D Evo). The problems included the inability to run Speedstep above 149BCLK, higher power use, and in some cases, higher temps. Unfortunately, it's impossible to roll back the bios on current Asus motherboards.

After two months of waiting for a new bios, a crafty Asus user came up with a solution, which you can read about here:

I've successfully used his "hacked" bios to downgrade from 1808 to 1702 on my Evo, and others used it for the P7P55D Pro. He basically makes the flash utility think the older bios is the newer bios, effectively allowing a reinstall of the "current" bios.

Thought some of you might be interested. Just make sure you use the "hacked" bios for the right motherboard. He has posted the files for several of them, as linked in the Asus forums. Otherwise, you can e-mail him (see forum for his contact info).
