Perhaps the updated VIA chipset has helped to play a part in a more successful Soltek 939-pin overclocking motherboard. Hitting a 250MHz FSB right off the bat was most impressive and the Corsair PC4400 memory had no problem operating at DDR500. The limit however was a 255MHz FSB which was still quite impressive. Overclocking aside the general performance of this motherboard was of the highest quality."

Note: 255Mz is the limit when running FSB:MEM 1:1.
 
I like my Neo4 but I wish I'd known newegg was coming out with this so soon afterward. Soltek is a fine brand from what I've heard and I could've saved a few bucks buying this. Plus, the chipset fan on the Neo4 is louder than I care for. Looks as if the Soltek has a passive cooler.
 
Looks like this board uses a 20 pin ATX connector. Any harm using an adaptor for it? Heard it is not good to use adaptors. Just bought a 24 pin power supply thinking most of the motherboards out use 24 instead of 20 pin. Wonder when their nforce 4 is due out and if it is 20 pin also.
 
After going back and forth a hundred times, I have decided I will be buying the Soltek K8T890 mobo. Not that there are not some disadvantages to it. My primary dislike of the board is that the Realtek Gigabit controller is tied to the PCI bus (not PCI-E). That was one thing that initially sold me on the ASUS A8V-E Deluxe (but anyone who has been been reading what I have been writing lately knows what I think about that ASUS board). But, one cannot have everything. The Soltek board is getting awesome press, is no slouch in the stock performance department, is rock stable, and does not appear to have any driver or other weird issues that nF4 boards seem to be suffering right now to some degree or another.

EDIT TO SAY: The PCI based ethernet is one of the disadvantages, but that is all. It is not causing me to dislike the board, just that particular (and small) aspect of it.

aeternitas: Are we being an nVidia pusher again? The whole world DOES NOT revolve
around the nVidia boards.

Hey Macro2:

Simply because I like to see as much "stuff" off of the PCI bus as possible. The PCI bus, especially when you have video editing devices hanging off of it, along with a sound card, etc., will constrain the bandwidth of the gigabit ethernet to levels below that of either native gigabit ethernet and/or gigabit ethernet routed through the PCI-E bus.

Not that this will stop me from buying the board, but it is one of the disadvantages that I was pointing out. Other than that, the board will totally fulfill my requirements--and it is Soltek, which is a good thing.
 
DAPUNISHER: Legion's review was also based on the engineering sample. Neoseeker is another site that rates the Soltek board highly.

Anyone know why the soltek 890 via board comes in 20 pin only? I thought it had to have 24 pin for the pci express stuff. I guess I will have to purchase an adaptor as I have a 24 pin power supply. Any other comments about this board before I purchase? Wonder how long their warranty on it is if I have any problems?
 
Will a 350w antec smartpower handle it? Just a plain jane video card and a couple of HDs, DVD drive and DVD burner. A64 3000+ with like 1 gig of ram.
 
I called Newegg and they said it was a 1 year warranty on the Soltek 890 via board. Looks like a good stable board but without NCQ or Sata II. Could go with the Western Digital Raptor 74 gig and pass up NCQ altogether. I'm tempted to wait until the dust settles on all the boards out and wait a little until the new Winchesters are out. But then again I've been waiting long enough.
 
Timecop67, that is the way I feel (sick of waiting).

I just bought an X800XL and it needs a place to run. I intend to get the A64 32000. My problem is the motherboard selection. The Chaintech, Soltek, and Asus (non-sli) all have problems or limitations for PCIe. I will probably end up going with Asus (becasue of the features).

dklingen: In regards to the issues with PCI-E on the Soltek, are you referring to the fact the board is using a 20pin ATX connector? Other than that, the Soltek board has displayed no issues at all. Just want you to clarify.
 
Just purchased the Soltek 890 board. See in my sig. I'll let you all know how I like it. Only thing left will be the Cpu and video card for me. Wish me luck.
