Soltek SL-75FRN2-L Not Stable at 400MHz

This Soltek motherboard is supposed to support 400MHz fsb (200MHz clock). However, the system will not finish boot sequence when clock is set at 200MHz. Startup sequence stops with options displayed on screen to adjust BIOS, and the clock has been automatically set back to 100MHz!?

Sytem seems to work at 166MHz clock = 333MHz fsb, but not at higher frequencies!?

Despite changing RAM timings and CPU/RAM voltages, the same problem occurs. Apart from changing timings, voltages, and cpu multiplier, the BIOS settings are otherwise at default.

CPU is Athlon XP 2600+, with Geil PC3500 1024MB Golden Dragon dual pack.

I have downloaded the latest BIOS and motherboard drivers, but I have yet to apply them.

Any comments please?

Flashed new BIOS (V1.6) and system now seems to work at 200MHz clock (400MHz FSB) at the moment.

another thing to look at with that board is the 100/133-166/200 (JP2) jumper. most seem to have better luck with 400 mhz if the jumper is set to 100/133 1-2closed.

That makes sense as the newer bioses often address stability issues that are ram related. IIRC, didn't you have serious problems with GEIL and the Soltek NesuD?

yes i did. The GeIL pc3200 dual channel kit to be precise. It simply would not run at a 200mhz setting in 3 different Nforce2 based boards without errors. Corsair cured the ram issue for me. I wasn't using the GeIL bga golden dragon ram though so I can't really comment on how well it works although i do recall it being problematic for some people when it first came out.
