I just want to give a plug in for Soltek and their excellent support. We have an official representative from Soltek over at that forum named Lydia.
Many of you are familiar with the bad capacitors that have plagued the industry lately. Some companies fixed these boards under warranty, but what about those boards that were out of warranty? I tried to get information from Gigabyte about repairing an out-if-warranty board. All I asked them was information about suitable replacements for the caps that had gone bad on the board. They basically gave me the runaround and said to call their warranty repair department (long distance).
I and some other Soltek owners had some Soltek NForce2 boards that had some bad caps and were out of warranty. Soltek not only told us what caps were suitable as replacements, but they also sent, FREE OF CHARGE, replacement caps to those requesting them so that they could repair their out-of-warranty boards themselve (easy soldering task). No calls had to be made, or hoops jumped through, this was all possible through email or messaging.
Now I know some of you are thinking "These capacitors only cost 25 cents a piece, what's the big deal?". Well, you have to order like 1000 of those caps at a time, as none of the manufacturers will sell them in small quantities. You cannot buy these caps at your local Radio Shack, or specialty electronics store (at least none of the ones I checked). Shipping alone (from Taiwan probably) was probably expensive for Soltek. They've made a customer for life from me and just thought I'd spread the word about them, since many really don't know much about Soltek.
Lydia, my hats off to ya, and thanks for the excellent service.
