Soltek KT8Pro-939

I recently purchased the soltek mobo and a Winchester core Athlon64-3500 (and I'm using a Zalman CNPS7700 cooloer. To make a long story short, I installed the latest version of the hardware monitor, and updated the bios, and my CPU Die temp is around 81C, and the RT1 temp is 39C! I couldn't BELIEVE how hot it was, even with the cooloer cranked all the way up. So, I installed an external temperature guage and put the sensor on the edge of the CPU between the CPU and the cooler. Well, now while the Soltek monitor is reading 81C, my digital temp is 49.8C. Is something wrong here and should I be worried? I'm usually a temperature FREAK, so this really worries me.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and those temps are non-overclocked and under load (playing Everquest2 in high detail mode). Normal temps are 65C for CPU die and 47C for my external temp sensor).

there are many problems w skt 939 boards reading cpu die temps correctly. Try updating your bios on the soltek, they may have fixed the problem. I would safely say that your digital temp is closer to actual temp.

It's a VIA board, not NF3, and I updated the BIOS to the latest available version. Thanks for replying though 🙂.

If you're taking the temperature correctly there's no reason not to believe the digital temp. An unscientific way to test is to turn off your rig for a while (an hour or so) so that you know the CPU is starting @ room temp. Upon initial post go right into your bios temp monitoring. If it's already @ 40-45, it's a reasonable assumption that the motherboard is exaggerating your temps. With a properly installed HSF there is no way that a stock clocked chip could heat up more than 5-10 degrees C in the 10 or so seconds that it will take you to get a look at the temps.

My experience with soltek HW monitor has shown wild swings as well (-8C to -214C). If you have updated the BIOS, installed a separate sensor, and use a third party progam (I use Speedfan 4.19)...Then don't worry about the Soltek HW monitor! Good luck...G

I recently read a review on the Soltek board which stated the readings were through the roof on that board.

Don't worry about it, the readouts lie.
