Hey all. I have read through the many MP3/WMA portables threads but none of them answer my question - What player do you have and how do you rate it? Also, have you had any other players and how do you rate them?

Maybe we can do a poll?

I have the Rio500 that I bought from alienwho. It's got 64 megs internal and 32 meg external smartmedia. I've been using it for almost 3 months and the thing owns. I use the USB connection through windows 2000. A single AA battery gets me 8 (?) hours. I haven't had much experience with other players but I like this one. I also dropped it from about 4 feet onto pavement in only it's leather case. THe thing crashed but upon "rebooting" worked no problems.

Let's see, I've had an original Rio, RaveMP, JaMP3, Nomad II, and a HipZip.

Of them all, I liked the Nomad II the best as far as all around qualitiy, price, & performance.

The HipZip was cool because the media was so cheap, but the player was expensive, so I was afraid to exercise with it for fear of dropping it (I bought it to exercise with).

The JaMP3 is tiny and cheap, so I'm not afraid to work out with it, but it is very cheaply made, and the memory configuration sucks (internal and add-on memory are treated as separate entities -- so you may not be able to actually use all the memory you have). Plus the software is horrible.

The Rio and RaveMP are so old, I won't even bother talking about them.

Now, I have a RioVolt, which I use ALL the time...and I use the JaMP3 for working out sometimes (usually, I don't use anything), even though its a POS.

I plan to buy one soon and some additional memory. I have read that the Creative Nomad II MG is very good, the NexII is good and the DGN MPIO DMG is great too. Anyone heard of these?

there's also the new ibm mxp-series of portable mp3 players. they use the ibm microdrive and currently hold capacities up to 1gb. they also use e.digital's microOS, which gives them voice-activated controls... the microOS is a very low-memory OS that is fully flash upgradeable.. so any players that use that OS can instantly upgrade to new music formats when they come out, and never have to upgrade to a whole new portable. for example, if you want to add windows WMA format, you just flash the player and now it supports wma also...

you can check them out here

I've had tons.

I had the Rio500 that I sold to Skoorb, that is a great little player. Also have had a PJB100 which is a nice player but I don't really like the interface (If anyone's interested i'll sell it to you, mint condition with everything that came with it new including original box for $175). Right now i'm using the Rio250 cd/mp3 player and it's really sweet, I LOVE the interface (from the rio800), sweet player but it's the size of an mp3 player and I have to carry cd's. I want a player that's like the Ipod with atleast 10 gigs that can also double as a hard drive, using the Rio800 interface + tuner, that would be the ultimate player.
