solid laptop?

So i'm looking to get a solid laptop for under $800. My sister got a Lenovo Y Series that I really like, and am leaning towards that, but i was wondering if there are other options out there that i should consider.

I have a desktop that i use for gaming, etc. so this will not be my primary computer. I don't need whopping amounts of performance, and i will most likely upgrade the RAM on my own.

What i am looking for is:
- good battery life - around 3-4hrs at least, more would be awesome
- media focused - will use this comp mostly for music/video and web surfing
- not a monster - around 15" is fine, but anything bigger is bit much

I am a little flexible on price, but please nothing over $1000

When it comes to things like these, All I can say is go to the store and see what you like. Some people rave about the Thinkpads, but I call them Stinkpads. I hate them.
