I found the Thinkpad R40 on the IBM site under SPECIALS for $999 instead of $1,269. Now I have no clue whether to get it or this one for the same price...

The R series is in IBM's value line while the T series is the flagship. The T23 is lighter and more sturdy, but older. The R40 should be a bit faster, but larger. I prefer the T23. As a matter of fact, the T23 is nicer than the T30, lighter and smaller due to the first generation of P4s being so large, power hungry, and hot. The T40 is the mack daddy if you have the budget, the hands down best laptop. For the record, the T40P is the king, with a higher end video card and hard drive.

Why are all these laptops deals popping up now. I want to get a laptop, but have not yet decided which one.

Why the deals?? Have you NOTICED the ECONOMY lately?! Alot of people have NO JOBS. SO sales are SLOW! Hence, DEALS to draw in buyers. That is how company's survive! LOL

LOL, make that FREE Shipping and no sales tax in California! WOOHOOOO Just ordered one! $999, that's it! T23 come to papa by the pool!

i love my ibm x30.

you wont regret picking up an IBM. A little more pricey than the deals you can find on HP/Compaq/etc, but the quality and warranty of IBM blows all the competitors out of the water
