any1 could post a pic of your favorite computer-desk?

the desk i have right now really sucks. 1 key-stroke would make the head of my NEC LCD shake for 30sec. i did know my the desk has already wore out. but till just recently i had a Sony CRT display, which was bulky. because of the it is bulkiness, the Sony did stand still with no shaking, oh, well, shaked but w/o my noticing.

what i want:
A SOLID DESK
L: 5ft/150cm
W: 3ft/90cm
or a bit bigger both got L and W.

any suggestion? please limit your sugegstion on purchase to East Coast US. thanks.

I want to build my own desk, because all the ones I've seen for sale at stores suck.

I have a big fat eight person solid wood extendable dining table as my computer desk. I can fit four 24" CRTs on it and more stuff...

By the way, good desks are very expensive...as are good chairs.

All that junk you can find at your local shops and IKEA isn't even worth looking at to be perfectly honest. There are those ergonomic desks that can hold a whole lot of weight etc., but I don't know the company's name. Those are cool, but be ready to dish out about $2500 if you really want a desk like that.

The table I use is just very plain, but is very solid and very large for these purposes. I think it was about $600. You could also build yourself a nice desk.

My Desk Solid wood. I also own a LCD and had it in mind when I purchased this desk. Long and slim for more space without intruding on the room.

Texmaster,

thanks for the photo.

hmmm....the desk in the photo is basically what i am looking. but it needs to be solid. i dont wanna a shaking/crapy desk. i do have to admit when shaking desks make me nervous, seriously. LOL. well, maybe the width needs to be more, because i take lots of note by hand in front of my keyboard.

i did look around at Staples, OfficeMax and such, but did not really what i want. i need more width!
oh, 1 more thing...i have a NEC LCD 18.1" which has been mentioned in my initial post of this thread.

need to see more pics. LOL

Your best bet is gov't auctions and other liquidation co's. That's where we got a lot of our desks, and mine...and very cheap.

I had a friend help me build mine.. out of plywood. ;)

nothing in the stores was big enough, or had enough vertical space.. Very easy to build, just find a friend with a little woodworking expiereince. Cost like $100 total including the tack paper to cover all the wood with (it looks decent), but my desk is *huge* (enough room for 2 19" monitors in front of me, and two 17" monitors on the sides, plus shelves above the monitor for a 19" TV, printer, DVD/VCR, stereo, and then the top shelf "junk pile" for spare stuff. Of course you have the CD shelves and stuff as well)

just heavy as heck. :)

-Phil

edit: pics. These were taken right after I dumped my crap on the thing after we brought it in. To get an idea of size, the left monitor is 17". Also the desk isn't completely covered with the tack paper because I got lazy. ;) If I did it again, I'd cover the thing before screwing all the panels together. Poor pics, but you should get an idea of what is possible for el-cheapo. Plywood is actually better building material than most desks are put together with these days anyways, and after you "laminate" it with your choice of tack paper (really think "paper" that sticks, waterproof and all of course) it won't look any worse than the non-hardwood desks you can buy at like office depot.

totally understand my friend. This puppy is solid as a rock. They dont even make it under you order it (no its not Jack in the Box :D) Cost about 500-600 smackers. I dont know if you noticed but my LCD is also 18.1 and the printer, an HP G85 is no light printer and the desk doesn't move an inch. I care as much as you do about solid craftsmanship and believe me, this desk is where its at. I looked for 2 weeks, hit over 15 stores looking for something solid. I even looked at the desk drawers for solid parts. This one has it all.

This is the website for the store that had them. I believe National Arrwood is the brand name. Its under "desk collections" under their home page. They have a contact icon too. Tell them what you are looking for and tell them its a Canadian Company. That much I rememeber. Good Luck you might find a dealer around you after talking to them.

Make one. Find a solid wood door at your local hardware store. Then get some wood and make the "legs". What I did was take 3 flat pieces of wood and put them perpendicular to the flat top, with the front open of course for the chair. Then, you can either paint yours black like Tex's or stain it cherrywood or oak maybe. Solid doors are very sturdy and roomy and will take a lot of weight without bowing. Here's a goofy sketch, but you get the idea.

I made my desk out some out of some 2x4's and some plyboard. I got the wood free from work. That was about 6 months ago. Today, I got some more wood - some 2x6's and more plyboard. I made a bookcase to go on top of the desk. I was gonna try to use some of the plyboard for shelves but have decided to go to homedepot and buy two 1x12's for the shelves I need to finish it. I decided that the plyboards are not stiff enough to handle any weight without bending.

I'd post some pics if I had a digital camera. :(

I have a shelf on it, which holds my cds, dvds, my printer, and other media.
I have two computers on the desk, my server, and my workstation. Two monitors, two towers, which are on the floor, a router, my modem, two computers, one mouse and my speakers fit here.
I love my desk, and it's really solid, put together well, by me :p

I got it at office max

Run to the local Home Depot, pick up a solid core door the size you want. Next step is Staples (armed w/ coupons) and pick up 2 file cabinets.

Place door on top of file cabinets..........enjoy.

I did that for awhile with a thinner piece of wood.. worked nice and never moved an inch..
