Soldiers in uniform being abused in my town

Firstly, I do not live in the US, I live in Australia. The city I live in has an army base where our primary active brigade is stationed. Therefore, usually whenver troops are sent away they are usually pulled from our base first.

Anyway, I was listening to the news this morning and I hear a story come on about soldiers being abused in a particular shopping centre (we only have like 3, don't laugh), called 'warmongers', murderers etc. Now, I don't like war, but I recognise the need for action and the folly of hoping it will all blow over (WW2 anyone?). This just pisses me off, the soldiers are just doing what they're supposed to do, abusing them changes nothing. It's all too eerily reminiscent of the post Vietnam era when people that risked their lives, watched friends die and get hurt came back only to be abused. Regardless of the cause I think we should respect our soldiers for what they do, because they do what 90% of us aren't willing to do, lay down their lives in defense of our country. All the bloody cowards out there seem to take gratification in hurling insults at people they know can't fight back. Which IMO makes them lower than pond scum, someone that can't take the consequences of his actions is not a real person at all.

Arrgh, sorry for the disjointed ramble but I had to get it out. Stuff like this just pisses me off.

What do you mean by abused? When I hear the word abused I think "get their @$$es beat". If they've killed people in combat I'm sure they can take a few words

Sorry I wasn't too clear, it's verbal abuse, I wouldn't expect cowards like that to be able to fling anything physical that way. I don't particularly like soldiers in general (the general army mentality when they're off duty is none too flash) but I respect what they do no matter what.

EDIT: Ignore the no matter what on the end. I don't even remember writing it. What I think I meant is that I respect what they do, no matter what my personal feelings towards them may be. Make more sense now?

Yeah, there's a few tragedies in existence. And I do hope you're not referring to the Steve Erwin accent. I detest that accent and if I was ever to meet him in real life I'd....... 'kick him in the nuts' 😛 Well not really but I don't like the guy

How do you know a woman with no eyes?

You were very verbally abusive of the people hurling abuse. What makes you different?

The fact that I'd be quite willing to say it to their face and take the consequences. These people AREN'T prepared to take the consequences for their actions. They're hurling abuse at soldiers that haven't even gone to Iraq yet (and doesn't necessarily mean that these particular soldiers will), have no choice in the matter and aren't able to retaliate. Write a letter to your MP, march in a Peace rally, write letters to the editor, there are far more useful ways to voice your opinion than running around calling people names. What they're doing is childish and cowardly, I just pointed that out. If I come across as abusive, then it's because I'm bloody annoyed as hell.

Just walk over and tell the soldiers you appreciate the sacrafices they make for everyone else and to ignore the morons.

I know, I just needed to rant. The mentality that pervades current western society annoys me. Just had to vent is all. Thanks for all the replies too people, makes me feel better knowing there are some real people out there still 🙂

Do you agree with the abuse hurlers? Do you agree that a Military Revolt would be a good thing?

What would those abuse hurlers do when Osama came to kill them?

What would they do when the Taliban came to beat them?

What would they do when their daughters were taken from them and forced to have a clitorectomy?

They sure wouldn't go and get their own gun and take care of things....

Yelling at Soldiers is similar to yelling at a Gun. If you have a problem with the military action yell at the people who are making/giving the orders, not the people following them.

They are too. How are you different. They think the soldiers deserve abuse, you think they do. Same thing. They have lots of real people that agree with them too. What does abuse have to do with being right?

they should abuse the people putting the soldiers in place, not the soldiers themselves.

Yeah, I agree with you. There is no reason for those people to take out their frustrations on soldiers who haven't done anything yet, even if they were in a war, they don't deserved to be insulted by their countrymen. It's obvious that those ignorant people don't know that those soldiers are just following orders given by their government.
