Soldier of Fortune in Win2k?

Is there any way to play Soldier of Fortune in Windows 2000? I get an error saying that it "Could not open string package 'items'". I'm not sure what is wrong or how to fix it.

hmm,

i play it with no problems in win2k pro. make sure you have all the regular stuff (all windoze updates, vid card drivers, etc), and also try to patch the game up. your error looks like a vid card issue, but im not sure.

I get the same error in XP, unfortunally I have no idea what causes it.
