I got a breadboard for a few prototyping circuits i'm working on......never used one before.....are the power strips along the outside, the red/blue +/- strips connected all the way through, or only per 5 pin segment????
 
...well, it depends on the board.

The ones I've used were split down the middle... so you had two 'columns' of five pins connected to each other, with a break in between (if you were holding the board with the long size horizontal), and no connections in the 'rows'.
