I have tried two different brands: Metcal (my first EE job)and Pace (my current EE job). I have not noticed any difference besides the fact that the Pace a temp. adjust, while the Metcal did not. I have met people who swear by Weller (I never used one) and I have met peopel that swear by Volcon (???) and other brands. Are they really all that different? I need to buy one (I do not want to spend more than $60).
 
I love my Wellers (have 2 of 'em). One is the bottom of the line $100 no adjustments, the other sold for like $500 new but I bought it at a swap meet for $20. I like the adjustable one for sensitive things like chips and such.
 
I only use Metcal. They are by far the best ergonomically and RF heat rules.
