Soldering question

I was reading a guide for soldering something and it talked about adding a resistor of 470 kOhms to a very small part on a computer.
What is that exactly? Is there a specific type of resistor for it?

Looking at computer parts, there are small rectangular resistors with different colors: black, and a tan color. (example pic: http://idisk.mac.com/icu812/Public/logicboard.jpg) Do any of those have a resistance of 470 kOhms?

And I read somehwere that a resistance of 0 kOhms can basically be a tin bridge. (is this correct?)

470 kOhms equals 470000 Ohms. 0 kOhms equals superconductor.

yeah, i'm confused.. can't you just go to radioshack and get a 470k resistor? 0 resistance sounds like you're shorting out a circuit to me

sometimes you want a short. maybe due to PCB design you couldn't have a trace there, maybe the resistor value is variable and 0 is a valid value

This is a regular 470k ohm resistor.

What your picture shows are surface mount resistors, which is probably what the article is talking about.

right, i understand that, but it didn't seem like OP understood that, so i was trying to use different terms..
