soldering CD-SPDIF on a SB Live value.

I got an SB live value. It's got the pcb place for a CD-SPDIF jack, but no actual jack. I already got my CD drive connected to the available cd-audio (analogue) jack.

Is it possible to soldier some wires to the metal contacts on the SB live and plug them (with a connector on the other end) to my cd drive? Would it be worth the effort?

I was wondering about this too, since I use digital out the regular analog CD IN doesn't play out the digital out.

Alrite, well seeing as your don't have the SPDIF in on your card, I assume you have Live! Value Rev. 2 with the Digitial Out on the back. I have the 1st Live! Value which has SPDIF-In and no Digital Out. Seeing as they have done this, I'm guessing that the card uses the former digital in for the digital out. So by soldering the pins, it's possibly that the two could conflict, resulting in various problems. This is only my guess, but it sounds resonable, why would Creative remove the spdif in to replace it with digital out? I think that if they could have kept both they would have, even the X-Gamer,MP3+,Platnium(?) is the same (i think?) digital out, but not digital in.

Yea, i got the rev2 value. So even the retail cards don't have the digital in for CD audio? I would expect a high-end card to have digital-audio in (edit:i put "out" b4, i meant "in&quot😉.

Tharyn - the card is a different design from the first ver. Value, so I'm positive thats not the case.
The daughterboards are interchangable in the new lives (value Rev 2, platinum, mp3+ etc...), so the cards themselves must be pretty similar, plus I think it would be cheaper to just design the board the same, just not have a digital in physical connector on the Value Rev 2.

i wondered this before, hung around creative workgroups and it cant be done. some stuff are missing from the pcb that the spidf needs to work
