Sold my car... but the bank says two weeks for a lien release form!

I sold my car to a buyer fro Massachusetts. He paid my loan off at the bank by a combination of certified and personal check. I called the bank my loan was through and they said that both checks have cleared.

the buyer drove the car back to Massachusett. I still have the title. Even if I smail him the title now, I don't think he can register the car there without the lien release.

I'm not really sure what to do now. 🙁

Traded in my old car in May, the 20th to be exact. Bank still hasn't sent the lien release form to the dealer I traded it to. They call me at least 3 times a week about it.

Well I called before the buyer came and they told me they could print it out right then.

Since then, I have called and heard "two business days", "ten days", and "14 days". I'm fed up with this. I am driving 50 miles to their corporate office right now to get a clear answer.

I am also closing my account with them. Beware of Partners Trust Bank from Utica, NY. there customer service is horrible.

I had a similar problem with Bank of America when I sold my car two months ago. I was able (in person) to get a notarized lien release form after much calling and visiting of the bank. It only took a few days but it was still annoying.

On a side, I didn't have the title. The bank had held it since I had a loan on the car. When I asked them for it, they claimed the title had been mailed to me when I purchased the car. We argued a bit and they refused to believe that I never received a title. So we had to have the lien release and some other paperwork in order to get the new title for the buyer.

Two weeks later, the original title arrived in my mail from the bank.

Yep, that's SOP
When I sold my truck last summer, I borrowed some money from family to pay it off before I advertised it so I could have a clear titl;e to give the buyer when it sold.

I'll mail the buyer the title when he shows me that his check cleared. It won't do him much good though. I think he'll be stuck for a week or two until I get the form to send him.
