Am I the only one that will never get back that hour of my life?? Yes, I stopped watching after an hour, and that was being generous hoping something would happen.

Doh!! What a suckfest that movie was...

Something MAJOR must have happened in the last hour of the movie then, because what I saw was terrible and slow, just like torture.

That was the first movie I have EVER walked out of. This is after trying to fall asleep in the theater so I wouldnt have to walk out and being unable to due to the immense sucking action the movie caused. (edit) I just wanted to add that Ive seen EVERY pauly shore movie in the theater (the ones that went to the theater that is) and I was also able to make myself sit through crapfests such as The One, Master Of Disguise, and The Other Sister, so dont think that I dont see many movies if this was the first Ive ever walked out of)

It felt like James Cameron was trying to out-Kubrick Kubrick to me, when I dont think even Kubrick was good at being Kubrick

It's supposed to be a piece of art, like 2001: A space odessey. I guess everyone has different tastes.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews for the movie, a great piece of cinematography. I guess some just don't have it in them to actually THINK during a movie. I blame it on all of the whiz bang explosions that has disillusioned people so much that they can't appreciate a deep movie that requires more than two brain cells to comprehend. I like movies that make me think.

I personally can't wait to see Solaris and the new movie with Jack Nicholsan (he plays a character that is totally un-Jack), "About Schmidt."

Trust me, I love a good movie and/or cinematography. I like many movies that got horrible reviews and hated movies that got good reviews because of the "whiz bang explosions that has disillusioned people" as you say.

This movie may be a cinematographers dream, (I will admit the visuals are good) but it lacks as a movie. I would rather see "Ishtar" a dozen times than this movie.

Ill forgive you, because you dont know me.

I guess some dont have it in them to actually THINK that another person can dislike something. I thought it was ambiguous, empty, and so awkwardly shot that I couldnt stand to watch it. The cinematography got on my last nerve, and really drove me crazy. And from what Ive seen, its only the pseudo-intellectual elitests have had anything good to say about this movie, so *shrug* I dont know.

My opinion is that it sucked, and should never have been made.

LOL, you stop watching after an hour, call it a suckfest, then ask if the last part was any good (or redeemed the movie in your eyes).

YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED AND WATCHED THE FRIGGIN' THING!!! :D At least get your moneys worth.

*SPOILER*

I was disappointed with the movie, I was hoping for a space exploration film like Mission to Mars or Red Planet (except better than those two).

I could have done without seeing Clooney's ass twice and all the flashbacks to that rainy city.

LAMO

I enjoyed it, but I saw the distinct influence there as well. Of course, I loved 2001 too.
<shrug>

Not for everybody and definitely not "lite cinema" though.

Cameron was only the producer. It was directed by Stephen Soderbergh.

If I sit and watch a movie for an hour and it sucks big time, I AM NOT GOING TO WATCH THE REST. Movies are for entertainment, and this had none. I had no idea where it was going, what it was doing, or why it even was, so I left. I try to give movies the benefit of the doubt, but this was going nowhere fast.

Start a movie with a story or something, or give it some interest. Fight club was a mystery and you didn't know where it was going, but it was interesting to watch, and the end was worth it. Same with mememto, but solaris just sucked...

If you didn't like the first part, you probably won't like the second part either - they were both pretty similar. Personally, i love deep, slow-paced sci-fi movies like Mission to Mars and Gattaca, so naturally, i liked this one as well.

The way I see it, if you don't watch the whole thing, you're really not in a position to comment on the movie as a whole...but that's just me ;)

I take it you didn't know this, but the movie was based on a 1960's novel and a 1970's film that are considered to be some of the greatest works of science fiction ever made. The director stayed loyal to them, and you can't blame him for that.

Not all movies are plot/dramatic action and not all "entertainment" is visceral. Fight Club was not a "mystery" either, I think Fincher would rip his eyes out to hear it so classified - but I do see what you are saying, however since you FAILED to watch the whole movie, its rather difficult to take a comparison of this nature seriously. Solaris was the kind of movie that has more questions at the end than the beginning, whereas Fight Club ends with the questions resolved. In this manner the film also bears similarity to 2001 (along w/ visual style).
<shrug>
Some people don't like that kind of film. They don't follow the same conventions as more standard cinema, and some of us like that.

I do know that, but have no information about the original work. It is similar to Psycho, the original was great, the movie they made a couple years back sucked golf balls through garden hoses.
