Solaris on SUN or Intel, need suggestion....

I am totally new to Solaris, but for my new position, I have to get hands on Solaris 8 OS.
But I don't know should I get a Sun station to learn it, or should I just install on my slow P3 700 CPU.
I am confused by all different servers/stations that SUN have on their website.
Can someone suggest a SUN server/station that is cheap and able to run 99% of the daily task...

Sun H/W is $$$

IF you have to get the H/W from your pocket, get the Intel version to learn on.

stick to x86 Solaris. Spark station will cost ya both of your kindneys and a left testicle. I would much rather stick to learning development in java and c++ under linux.

Daily tasks??? Not that you have asked for programming stuff, but there is somewhere out there a solaris build of Internet Explorer 4.0. And I am not kidding. This might fulfill your dreams. Also star office kinda runs flaky.
