I have been tasked with getting a Solaris 8 system all patched up. The system isn't on a network. It hasn't had any patches applied since 2003.

What is the best way for me to patch this system. I absolutely can't put it on a network until it is patched.

Does Sun offer a cumalative patch that I can download?

BTW, I don't know jack about Solaris, I just got tasked with this task and I need to get it done ASAP.

EDIT: I think I found it. Hopefully the clusters have all the patches I need.

umm....

from what i remember....

sun offers a bunch of different patches for different things.

afaik, there is no "general" huge patch.

back when i used to work at a company where we used solaris, we had a script which indicated to us what patches were needed. Quite useful to use!

Go to sunsolve.sun.com and download the recommended patch cluster (which you could call a "general huge patch... :p). You can also use patchpro from the same site.

The patch cluster is definitely what you want. If you don't know what you're doing, you should let your boss know so he can assign someone else...

Yeah, funny. It doesn't work that way. We are short handed as it is. We have no solaris admin. I am supposed to be developing web services. Since I am the only person on the project that has ever even used Solaris, it is now my job to get this machine up and going.

Solaris isn't THAT hard to figure out. Just took me a few months ;)
