solaris 8 or caldera openlinux 2.4?

which one is better and easier to use for a beginner? i don't know which one to install since they're both free.

It's hard to say which one is *easier*, it's even hard to say which one is *better*. I'd go with Linux if I were you, unless you have some special reason to run Solaris on your computer.

To me, Linux is easier.

I run Solaris 8 on a couple of SPARC stations here at home. It can be annoying. Refuses to boot into CDE when an SBus video is changed.

In my opinion, Linux is more compatible with PCs than Solaris. With SPARC stations, however, they are the same.

Linux is for x86 and Solaris is for SPARC IMO.

Unless you have some compelling reason to run one over the other.

It does, and it runs pretty well, but I just think Linux(or a BSD flavour) is a better choice.

Caldera (or any linux, for that matter) has better hardware support for PC's, and probably has more ready-to-install software (as opposed to downloading and compiling source code).
