hi

i was trying to install solaris 8. i have tried 3 different machines and here is the summary.

1. Pentium III
keyboard gets stuck and then hangs the system

2. Pentium II
Goes to the installation phase just before the webstart and reboots itself - this keeps on happening.

3. Pentium IV
goes to the webstart installation - white screen and then nothing happens.

i really need some help here 🙂

Thanks

I have to retract my statement regarding AMD systems. It's Darwin (the Mac OS X kernel) that doesn't like AMD systems at all.

To be honest, I've only successfully installed Solaris 8 once on a PC. It was a P2-400/BX-based system.

Solaris for Intel was bad from the beginning. Don't even bother.

It took me three tries, and when I finally got it to work, my NIC wasn't recognized.
Supposedly it was on their HCL, but it didn't work. Go figure. I'm happy with Linux
and BSD.

Sunblade 100's and Netra X1(?)'s were a little under a $1000 last time I checked. Go buy one for yourself and send me one! 😀
