i've noticed everytime i try and install files i get some sort of errors, like when installing half life or wolfenstien i get 'an I/O error occured, this is usually caused by bad media......', i thought it may be the cd rom so i downloaded things like the counter strike standalone and the quake 3 TA demo, both got errors 🙁
also games that install correctly crash when launching, like unreal tournament, it said this on the tech support site

If this is occuring, be sure to shut down all of your other applications before playing.
If this doesn't help, then it is possible this error can occur if your CD-ROM drive is plugged into an Ultra-DMA 66 controller on your computer's motherboard instead of an E-IDE controller. Contact your computer manufacturer to find out how to change this connection.

now, my motherboard doesn't support UDMA 66 (i can't be bothered to update the bios), and i don't think it has connectors just for that, it just has 2 ide connectors.
so should i try swapping around the IDE cables? or is this just a software problem, cause i've run disk defrag, scandisk, virus check, cleaned registry, etc etc and i formatted 3 weeks ago before problem starting by the way)

1.7 fujitsu slave thing slave
12x teac cd rom
win95 b (shhhh)
to mods😛lz don't delete this for being to do with software, i'm just trying to rule out hardware faults
