Software VPN?

I've been researching VPN's, and I was wondering hoe to set one up without expensive hardware. The VPN will be used to connect less than 4 people to the network at work. I would like to be able to let them acsess the network from anywhere in the country. I've seen OmniVPN, but I was wondering about any software alternitives. Would I also need any specific harware to use software vpn, or wouldt the plain old router/switch be just fine?

I will know nothing about this till wendsday, when I here about this for the first time. It's going to be a startup company, and all I have heard so far is that they definitly need a vpn. I can always install a server os, so I'm going to say yes to that.

In that case, RAS is simple to set up and use in NT 4.0, 2k Server, or Server 2003. There are plenty of guides on the web and once you know what you're working with, I'll be happy to walk you through setup.
