Does anyone have a general guide on software updates with OSX86, like what will bork your hackintosh install and what usually won't?

On my MSI Wind I was told to turn off automatic updates, but now let's say if I bought a Bluetooth Apple keyboard and needed to install the firmware update, is that okay? What about the new iTunes 8.0.2 release?

Can I assume that since the iTunes 8.0.2 is not a kernel-level release, that should be ok to update to, and since the keyboard update is applied towards genuine Apple hardware, that'd be fine too?

I just installed iTunes 8.0.2 on my hackintosh fine no problems. The only ones I really watch out for are major releases (10.5.5, 10.5.6) and security releases.

basically any update that doesn't affect the Extensions or Kernel is fine. Depending how you installed that might not make a difference either. Normally, you only get Kernel or Extensions changes in the 10.5.X releases or on occasion there has been one in another update. Anything application related is fine. Keyboard firmware is fine. When in doubt open it up in Pacifist and see if it affects the Kernel or Extensions.

Thanks - this is what I was looking for...never knew anything about stuff like Pacifist.
