software to slow down laptop to conserve battery?

hello.

I have DELL inspiron 4150. is there a program that can slow down CPU to conserve the battery power? currently this battery runs around 2 ~ 2 1/2 hour. there is speed step, but it doesn't really do much.

Speed step is it. Thats about all you can do with the dell...since it doesn't let you mess around with FSB speeds and voltages in the BIOS

If thats time with one battery, thats not bad. Most laptops last that long on one battery (with the exception of anything made by apple...but I won't go there ). My Inspiron 8100 gets about 4-4.5 hours with two batteries...although thats been decreasting slightly recently. I think one of my batteries is in the process of dying. Ah well..it is a year old.
