I am looking for software to slow my 16xDVD down to just 1 or 2x for DVD playing, as the noise of 16x is quite annoyning, expecially when you see the activity light rarely on.

I'm running Windows ME with an IDE drive.

Thanks

Mine is a lot less noisy when I play as opposed to rip. I have a Pioneer 16X Slot.

If you are simply playing a DVD, it shouldn't be running at full 16x! DVD's are only 1x (Movies), so thats all your DVD should be running at, if its running faster than that somethings wrong.. at least to me there is.

I'd like to know if a program like this exists too. I can't stand the noise from my drive when it spins up (it's quiet when playing a movie though). The only thing I EVER use it for is installs. For everything else I use my burner since it only reads at 8x (aka it's nice and quiet).

Thanks for the link to the software. From the look of the activity light and the sound from the spinning, it's defilitly going at least 6x. I get a nice smooth picture, and "blink......blink.....blink" from the activity light on the drive. I'll see how the software helps it, as the drive in that system rarley does anything else.
