I have a new HDD coming Tuesday. So far i've been lucky and never had a DOA HDD, but I always worry i'm going to load my stuff on an HDD then it's going to start to fail.

Is there any software that I can run on a new HDD that will ensure there are no bad sectors/corrupted areas from the start?

I've read there is software out there that will read and write to every sector on a drive to check it, and i've run HDD checking software before, but i'm not sure if scanning for bad sectors is the same as reading and writing to every sectors on the HDD.

HD Tune seems to get mentioned a lot on these forums, is that the best? Which test would I run?

Thanks.

Each maker has a diagnostics tool that you can download and make a bootable CD with. I use Hitachi Drive Fitness Test and SeaTools most often.
