Software to record streaming video from WMP

I am watching something online that is around 100 minutes or so. The problem is of course that I can't forward it even though it has downloaded that part! OR when the whole thing's finished and I want to watch only parts of it, I can't skip ahead ... can only go back.

Is there a free program that records streaming video from Windows Media Player?
 
If you download a video and you still can't fast forward/rewind, right click it and click "Make Index for ASF..." Took me a while to figure that out.
