I have a zip file on a floppy disk that I can't read one file out of the zip, which happens to be the last updated file and the one I really need since I have backup of the others. So either that part of the disk is bad, or that file/section of the zip is corrupted. Is there any software that I can use to read that file? I can read the rest of the files in the zip OK.

I used to rely on norton's disk doctor...but haven't had a reason to use it in years...is that still available?

how about bad copy pro

have you tried that floppy on other computer? sometimes different drives are more capable of reading marginal disks.

open the door on the floppy and check for visible smudges, or damage.

good luck.

OK I tried BadCopyPro. After using all three methods it offers to repair, when I tried to open text file in the zip file, I get these errors:
BTW, I let BCP do it's zip file recovery that it prompts to do (but it saves the unfixed version to).

1st method ("Rescue Corrupted Files") = Error in file #1: bad Zip file offset (Error local header signature not found): disk #1 offset: 8968. This is on the regular zip file it recovered. The other (the one BCP did zip file recovery on) deleted the text file I need (and 2 others) from the zip.
2nd method ("Rescue Lost Files - Mode 1 ) = bad crc
3rd method ("Rescue Lost Files - Mode 2 ) = bad crc

I'm using Winzip to open the zip. A hex editor wont show text in a zip file will it?
Surely the whole text file that in the zip isn't bad. I only need the last couple pages of text that I added to it that aren't in my backup. The text file is 433KB uncompressed, and 171KB in the zip.

ok...so maybe it was just the zip file messed up (is that the same error you received before badcopypro?)

I wonder if advanced zip repair could help...(however, I'm afraid that chunk of data is gone)

http://www.repairfile.com/

the trial version works for 3mb or less zip files

So I'm clear, those are error messages Winzip was giving me (sorry). Before BCP, when I opened the zip and tried to open the text file inside that I need, the error was "Severe error. When testing/extracting Winzip was unable to read file #1 in the Zip file.".
That's the only bad thing about zip. If it weren't in the zip and part of it was corrupt, I could probably still read the other part. Unless a hex editor or something will still let me do that (with the bad file being in the zip).

Advanced Zip Repair's fixed zip only has one file in it!? Strange. The original zip has about 70, and I can get to almost all of them in the bad file, except the one I need to.

Is there a way I can repair the bad CRC of a zip file?
