I'm a DIYer and would setup a proxy of my own with a blacklist that they had to go through in order to connect to the net. But I'm guessing that's more than you want to do. You could just edit the HOSTS file on the PC so that all sites that you are aware of that are objectionable will be redirected to the local machine & thus display a 404 error. But that probably won't catch all of the sites. If you just want to use some software but I guess Net Nanny or Cyber Cop would be your best bets.

SquidGuardnsafreak, that is effective to an extent, but unless you want to type in 1 million URL's there is no way to block accidently viewing porn. I responded to this old thread because I jsut got DSL and now are in the elite broadbrand usergroup! I allow my 8 and 6 year old to surf on the dsl (whereas they had no interest going to nickjr.com on dialup) and was looking for a decent webfilter. Like most I am cheap (but will pay for a decent product), however I did find the following free webfilter:

Webcleaner

Why does everyone want to try and block objectionable sites. Instead only allow the sites you want them to see.

Give the kids a restricted account in XP and only allow sites to be visited that you know to be safe; blocking everything that isn't on your safelist.(you paid for this administrative functionality when you bought windows)

If they are young enough not to be trusted, then they really don't need to be rampaging all across the internet. If they can't be trusted, then why are they allowed on the internet at all?

The easiest way IMHO is to create a limited account in XP (if you have Win XP) and then configure IE's content advisor. I'd also be sure to have Spyware Blaster installed, MS's Anti-Spyware and a quality AV like Kaspersky running in the background.
