I have been all over the net trying to find a simple program that will monitor 2 shared folders and let me know if ANY of the files in said folders are currently IN USE. I don't want to know if the date changes, or if it's been modified, or if a file was created, or any other shit they think I want to know. I want to simply know if any file is in use, that's it.

Has anyone come across something for this? It's driving me nuts that I can't find something that should be so simple that it's got to have been created.

Filemon and regmon were discontinued because they were all merged into procmon. Why not just use procmon? Set it to monitor only file activity, and it'll be just like the old filemon. Also, the EULA is shown only the very first time you run the program and is never shown again--hardly a major inconvenience.

Filemon won't even run, it loads and says that it was replaced by ProcMon and exits.

is this from a server? share and storage management with the file services role will let you see open files.

Yes, it is off a 2008 R2 server and I did see the tool to monitor shares. But i found a program called ShareWatch that does exactly what I wanted, and it's free.

Before you getting random EXEs off the internet. All you need is the currently release of Microsoft's website. Running Procmon /accepteula once is pretty simple. It only asks once and never again or using /accepteula skips even that.

The fact that the op ran a random exe on the net on his server would concern me more.
