Friends son is not doing well in school, I'm trying to modivate him to step it up a few notches but am having little luck. I was thinking I would find some software where I could create custom tests and tie them in with a reward system. It's one thing to tell him "do good in that Math quiz today at school and next week when you get the results I'll buy you a PSP game" and to say "take this quiz I made and if you get 80%+ I will go buy you a game right now.

I downloaded a couple trials and they seem pretty basic, I don't need something super fancy. But one that would let me track his results in different categories. Use video/audio clips to make it more interesting to him. Also depending on a right/wrong answer I can have it do something (play a video clip, pull up a reference to the correct answer etc) Oh, and it wouldn't hurt if I could find one that came loaded with sample questions. Its been a long damn time since I was 13 (his age) and I don't want to go making tests too ease or too hard for him.

Hoping maybe there's some parents here who have experience with this very thing. Googled for a review site and the only one I came across the stuff sounds suspiciously like paid BS.

It costs money but it's good. I think it's important to find software that uses the Leitner system. (Err I think that's what the system is called). Basically, it asks you questions you get wrong more often than the questions you get right.

Standard commerical S/W is targetted for those younger than him.

I will ask a family member that teaches 8th grade for any advice and pass it along.

thanks man, I found a really good one called Qedoc eLearning but if you don't pay for it (500 bucks) any tests you make they have to approve and anyone who wants to download it can. Don't think they'd give the thumbs up to mine and i want to make it personalized for him. If they know of anything let me know I'm interested in seeing what's out there
