Software to make my own calendar - suggestions please

This year, I'd like to make a 2001 Calendar that has a different picture each month of the families in our family.
For example: My Mother and Father in January, Brother and his family in February, etc. I'd also like to be able to mark the days for Birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Can any of you recommend a software program that would let me do this and print it, or create it and take to a place like Kinkos for printing.
I have a scanner, so I can use digital pictures or scan in copies of prints.
I want the top of the calendar to hold the pictures and the bottom to display the days of the month....just like your typical calendar, only homemade.

I'm not familiar with the use of visual basic or other programation tools. Can you elaborate? I'm not really looking to write my own program for the calendar. I was hoping there would be a software application that would allow me to choose a layout, add my photos, and mark special days on the calendar with text of my choosing.
