In that post, maluckey mentions some software that is bundled with these Diamond Max Plus 9 drives, what is he referring to?

I would really like to find out, because my Diamond Max Plus 9 has really loud seeking noises.

Thanks

Be aware that you're essentially turning a 7200rpm HD into a 4200rpm HD in terms of seek performance. Read access time goes from 13-14ms to 19-20ms.

I used the HGST on my bro's DM9+ 160GB, but yea, if Maxtor has their own software, I don't see why not :)

I have tried it on several drives, it makes a very big difference in terms on noise reduction, but only a minor reduction in terms of performance. Accord99 is not quite accurate in comparing it to a 4200 RPM drive...run the benchmarks yourself

Can you say hyperbole? I concur that the very minor reduction in performance is well worth the reduced noise. It remains a peppy drive. BTW, there are fast, quiet and off settings for acoustic management. The IBM/Hitachi tool allowed fine adjustment but without any practical advantage.
