Software to make 2 computers act like one desktop?

I am wondering if there is any software that lets you connect two computes maybe through network so I can use one mouse and keyboard on both. I would just drag my mouse off the screen to the right and it would begin using the 2nd computer's cursor (just like a computer with two monitors would act).

This would be a really cool idea, that way I am not having to switch keyboards and mice each time I want to use my second computer.

Thanks in advanced with all the info you can pull up 🙂

KVM switch? 😛

Or if you want that intended functionality, you might be able to do it with remote-admin software (RDP through XP Pro, or VNC). Don't know if the seamless mouse transitions will be possible, but it's certainly worth a shot.

KVM switch requires you to hit a switch each time(I have one)... RDP and VNC arn't these solutions... I am aware of these 🙂

Let me know if anyone else has ideas to do the seamless mouse and keyboard sharing 🙂

Thank you for your suggestions, they are appreciated.

Oh, and no linux.

im not entirely sure what you are asking for. assuming you want 2 computers to work thro 1 monitor, keyboard, and mouse. a kvm switch is a simple hardware solution to this problem. otherwise i know that windows server allows you to have remote access to other computers via a network. using a client on one computer you can run the 2nd computer from the first.

either of these solutions probably wont be free for you, however, so they may not be good solutions. kvm switch would be cheaper, unless you can get ahold of server somehow.

There IS a software program that does exactly what you want to do. However, I can not remember what it is called at this time. I will do some research and get back to you in this thread.

Maybe this will work? I read about it in another thread and the posters seemed to give it good reviews. I haven't tried it myself.

think that was the one I was going to suggest

Yup...

That is the one I was thinking of too... Just couldn't remember the name.

If you are using windows xp you can use the free software called remote desktop. Then you can just alt-tab...

Synergy isn't even working for me... I set it up step by step from the readme and it doesn't let me drag my mouse over to the other screen. Plus what is really odd is it makes me add my server's computer name to the list in order to start the server without error...

Disable firewalls. Post your synergy.conf.

syngergy is crazy to get setup correctly but once it is its awesome 😀 you have to have the server running and get the screen positions just right in order for it to actually let u even run the client and to ge tthe client its almost compleatly opposite settings from the server but just as many...good program though 😀

No conf. I'm using Win32 version.
