software to encrypt/protect USB flash drive?

Homerboy

Lifer
is there anyway/software out there that allows encryption or password protection at the least of a pen/USB flash drive?

i'm sure there are lots of ways to do it, but one way is to create a truecrypt volume on the drive. it does mean that you need truecrypt on the machine you're using to read the drive though.

yeah I dont want that though... cant believe there isnt some simply command line .exe or simplistic GUI that can all be help on the USB drive so that it can be used on any PC

how can I install PGP on a pen drive? I want the info protected but available on any machine I use. Eveything, including encryption engine must be n the drive then

Have you tried installing PGP onto the pen drive?

I'm curious about this too because I have a Kingston DataTraveler II 512MB flash drive which allows me to create a "private partition" that can only be accessed via password. It works fine at home, but my computer at work will not let me access the private partition I created. I read the FAQ which says that the private partition can only be accessed "on computers for which you have Administrator privileges."

Am I going to run into this problem if I try one of the programs listed in this thread? If it helps, my computer at home runs Media Center Edition 2005 and my work computer is Windows XP Pro SP2.

True Crypt has a "Traveller Mode" which means you can put the program on the flash drive and run it from there, but you will need "Administrator Priviliages" to run it.

folder lock is a great program for this though it does cost money, but is the best i have found support the programmers it is worth the money

2nded. Use it on 3 drives. Daily.

You might also want to look at EncryptOnClick from 2brightsparks. I'd go with TrueCrypt though.
