Here at our company we have a printer that people always prints labels to, and they always go around saying "Printing Labels!" They do that because they have special paper in the printer and they dont want another person to print on to that paper. I was wondering if there was some software that the users can run to lock the printer down for x amount of seconds. Or lock it down till they print. Maybe even some java help on this.. thanks!

If the printer you have has multiple paper trays then you can fill one up with labels and another with regular paper.

Solution: dedicated cheap inkjet printer for people to print labels and other super duper special paper type jobs on.

edit: There are other things you can configure in your print server. I assume you use a Windows box to act as the print server. If your users are printing directly to the IP of the printer's network card or jetdirect box, then I don't there is much you can do.

We have similar issue with our printers. We have a printer that a few other people use as well as our accounting department. When the accountants need to print cheques or something, I just deny the 'Everyone' group access and enable the 'Accounting' group to print. You could do this on a user by user level also.

I recomend getting something like a dymo label printer like I have at work (quite a few of those) connect it either to a usb printer server to ip box thing or to a workstation

it basicly just has a feeder and a special program to print labels from, some guy at work even made a program which reads from a text file all the addreses and then goes on to print few hundred labels
