Software to diagnosis why a program failed to move a file ?

Good morning,

Let's say you have a regular windows file share X on a domain. Program Y on another computer attempts to move some files around on the share, but fails to..sometimes. Program Y spits a generic error message "failed to move the file".

Is there a program you can install on the computer hosting X which could give a better description of why the file move failed? Whether it is a lock, a security failure, corruption or anything else?

You can turn on auditing, and that should help you a bit.

If a file is open in a program then computer Y cannot move it.

I would check the Event Viewer on both X and Y to see if there were I/O errors.

I use Unlocker.

It does what it says. Oftentimes a reboot is required, though.
