I think I have the right to make a 'legal' copy of DVD's that I own - I've got a new HP 200i dvd burner, and more out of curiousity than anything else, I want to copy a video DVD. I should be able to do a bit-for-bit copy, but I can't seem to figure out how. Nero does a copy protection check which prevents this from working...

Does anybody know how to copy a video DVD ? I don't want to compress it to DIVX, or take just the video stream - I want the WHOLE DVD. I realize I could only do my single layer DVD's since they are the only ones under 4.7gig...

Anyway, let me know if you know how to do this. Thanks !

If the DVD your coping is smaller then 4.7GB just do the following:

1) Us Smartripper(in backup mode)to copy the all of the files on the DVD to your hard drive. Make sure the box next to Region Free and De-Macrovision are checked in the settings tab.
2) Once Smartripper is done coping the files us Nero to burn the vob, bup and ifo files to a blank DVD+RW disc.

If the contents of the DVD are larger then 4.7GB just rip the movie and burn that.
