Software to check if mobo has SATA ports?

I think device manager displays sata controllers. But if they're not installed then you won't know even if they're there or not.

You can check for an SATA controller. I have no idea what you could use in Windows though, lspci lists everything on the PCI bus in Linux whether there's a driver for it or not. And there's also a chance that the device could look different from the software perspective depending on whether it's in compatibility mode or not.

If this a computer is at work and you cant open the case, why do you need to know if it has SATA?

Because they're buying new drives and would like to avoid having to go around and open them all one by one?

No inventory control S/W for tracking a system?

Thanks for replies.

Yes, Nothinman hit the point. I need to evaluate computers for a upgrade. They don't have inventory control or HW tracking database unfortunately.

I've found out most of these PCs have Intel ICH4. I've searched intel site and it seems that ICH4 supports SATA? I thought it was from ICH5 they implemented SATA.

If ICH4 supports SATA it'd be good enough for me.
