Hello, I'm seeking advice from someone experienced with this field, my Dad's hardrive died I guess and has bad sectors and refuses to boot up. He needs his email files backed up because he does his business work through email so it is his life line. I need some suggestions on what software to go buy to help restore and backup his computer so he isn't at loss. Thanks for any suggestions.

You want OnTrack's EasyRecovery. They have a trial version that allows you to see what files it can restore. It can scan certain partitions or even raw data from your entire drive. This program is a MUST for anyone that needs files recovered. Note: You need their newest version 6.0 if you are using Windows XP.

I'm just guesing that you'll probably need to put the hard drive into another computer as a secondary and read the data from there.

BACK UP!

Yeah, OnTrack's EasyRecovery does create a bootable floppy for you to use their program with. It will even rebuild partitions for you if you tell it how many partitions you had and their approximate sizes.
