Software to ALTER your CPU FAN SPEED?

Hello,

I have an Athlon XP1700 / Abit KG7 and I am not overclocking. I have a Volcano 6cu+, but it is REALLY loud. I know I can probably buy the lower RPM fan, but I was wondering if there is a program that can adjust your CPU Fan speed to whatever you want (within certain limits of course). I have VIA Hardware Monitor 2.04, but I don't think I can change the speed of the CPU Fan with it. Is any of this possible?

(PS - Does anyone know where I can Download a new version of VIA-HM, because the version I have isn't installing correctly...Thanks....)

Depends upon the inidvidual fan. Some fans all ow software adjustment of voltage supplied to control fan speed, some are temperature controlled.
The majoority of fans cannot be controlled at all however, and always spin at their maximum speed.

I'm not sure about the Volcano 6CU+ specifically however.

Nope, you cannot adjust it with software. Only way to adjust it is to get an adapter where you can control the voltage going to the fan. Your other option is to just buy a quiet fan to put on it. Your heat may increase as quieter fans usually mean less airflow.
